Antioch, CA

One of the oldest towns in California, the city of Antioch is located along the San Joaquin-Sacramento River Delta in Contra Costa County, part of San Francisco’s East Bay region. It covers nearly 30 square miles of land with a population topping 110,000 people.

First settled in 1848 and incorporated in 1872, the area was known early on as Marsh’s Landing and then Smith’s Landing, before the town’s minister persuaded residents to change the name to Antioch. Today, Antioch is mainly a bedroom community for workers in Oakland and San Francisco. The town has grown in recent years, as the Bay Area population, and real estate prices, continue to go up. Antioch is also home to 31 parks totalling 310 acres.
